Robert Perez went 3-5 with two home runs and five RBIs and Jimmy Kingsbury pitched five shutout innings to lead the Modesto Nuts to a 12-0 win over Inland Empire on Sunday. Jonatan Clase had three hits, including a triple.
Kingsbury (W, 1-0) allowed three runs and a walk against six strikeouts while throwing 69 pitches, 44 for strikes, over five innings.
Perez has the Cal League lead in home runs (11), and RBIs (35).
The Nuts scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and went on to score in all but two innings, capping it off with a five-run eighth.
Adrian Placencia had two of Inland Empire’s five hits, including a triple. D’Shawn Knowles was 1-3 with a double.
The 66ers won four of the six games in the series. They return home to face San Jose on Tuesday while the Nuts travel to Stockton.
