Four Modesto pitchers combined to shut out the San Jose Giants on Thursday night as the Nuts won 5-0. Harry Ford went 2-for-4 with two walks and a double to lead the 7-hit Modesto attack.
Nuts starter Jimmy Kingsbury threw four innings and allowed one hit and two walks with three strikeouts. Tyler Driver (W, 1-0) followed with two clean innings, no hits or walks with four strikeouts. Kelvin Nunez did nearly the same, going two shutout innings with one hit allowed, no walks and four Ks. Finally, Andrew Moore handled the ninth inning with one hit, no walks and three strikeouts.
Ford got Modesto on the board with an RBI double in the top of the first inning, then brought another run across in the fifth on a single and an error. The Nuts tacked on single runs in the sixth and seventh while the pitching staff limited San Jose to just three hits for the game.
Giants OF Vaun Brown got two of those hits and continued a hitting tear that started in Visalia last week. Brown is 11 for his last 28 with three doubles and a homer.
Modesto has won two of the first three games in this series heading into the weekend. Game four is Friday night at 6:30PM
