OFFICIAL: CARLOS CORREA HAS FRACTURED FIBULA

lancasterjethawksnewAfter much caution, it was announced on Wednesday that Jethawks shortstop Carlos  Correa does, in fact, have a fractured fibula. The injury will keep the 2012 top overall draft pick out of action for the remainder of the California League season. The next likely action for the 19-year old Puerto Rican star will be in the Arizona Fall League.

Correa underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his right fibula on Wednesday in Houston. The injury occurred Saturday night as Correa was sliding into third base in Lake Elsinore.

The unfortunate slide came in the opening days of the second half of the California League season and Correa’s stellar play had made him a likely candidate to move up to AA. At his young age and with his brilliant skills, this should prove to be a brief setback for Correa. It is hard to say where he will start the 2015 season, but he is still on the fast track to make the major league club at age 21 or younger.
