ROBERTSON Q&A ON MiLB.COM

AthleticsDaniel Roberston was taken with the 34th overall pick in the 2012 draft by the Oakland A’s and has plied his trade in the AZL, NYP and MWL leagues. The right-handed hitting shortstop figures to land in Stockton to start the season as he continues to follow fellow 2012 draftee and uber-prospect Addison Russell up the minor league ladder.

Robertson is ranked by Baseball America as Oakland’s #10 prospect and BA figures Russell, the top organizational prospect and also a shortstop, into the Southern California native’s development plans. The A’s like Robertson’s instincts and believe he can move around the diamond to accommodate Russell’s likely emergence as the club’s shortstop of the future.

But Robertson may not have the power to move to third base, and who knows what can happen along the way as prospects develop into major leaguers. Or don’t develop, as the case may be.

Josh Jackson of Milb.com interviewed Daniel Robertson recently and the takeaway is that this is definitely a positive-energy guy that fits well into the  Athletics’ profile.  The Moneyball tactics are still in place, and it all works out when players like Josh Donaldson, Eric Sogard and Josh Reddick, among many others, go for broke every night.

Robertson is clearly a guy who will lay it all out there night after night. See Jackson’s interview with the likely 2014 Stockton Port here:
