PLAYERS OF THE WEEK MAY 31 – JUNE 6

Inland Empire’s Jeremiah Jackson has been named Low-A West Player of the week and Rancho Cucamonga’s Braydon Fisher has been named Pitcher of the week.

JEREMIAH JACKSON – The Los Angeles Angels’ #5 prospect went 7-for-20 in six games against Rancho Cucamonga and batted .350/.458/.700. On June 4th, Jackson went 2-for-4 with a double and two walks while driving in four runs. Over the week, Jackson had three multi-hit games and drove in eight runs.

BRAYDON FISHER – RHP Fisher pitched twice out of the bullpen last week, logging 7 1/3 IP, allowing 1 H and 3 BB while striking out  12. On  June 4th against IE, Fisher struck out eight over 4 IP. BAA over the two appearances was .043 and Fisher’s WHIP was 0.52.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: JOSH GREEN

RHP Josh Green of the Visalia Rawhide was name Cal League Pitcher of the Week with 11 strong innings over two starts. Green went five innings against Stockton on June 26th and  followed it up with six shutout innings against Modesto on June 30th. Over 11 total innings Green allowed 2ER on 7H with 2BB and 14K.

In picking up the win over Modesto, Green’s record improved to 7-1 on the year. A 14th-round draft pick in 2018, Green appeared in 25 games for Hillsboro of the short-season NWL last year.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: GARRETT SCHILLING

Garrett Schilling of the Lancaster JetHawks went six shutout innings against Rancho  Cucamonga on June 5th to earn Cal League Pitcher of the Week honors. The right-hander struck out 10 while allowing just three hits and a walk.

Schilling was drafted by the Rockies in the 18th round of the 2017 draft and made 10 starts in the short-season Northwest League that year. He spent all of 2018 with the Asheville Tourist of the South Atlantic League (loA) and went 8-5 with a 3.27 ERA over 26 outings, 25  starts. This season, Schilling is 4-2 for Lancaster after a win Monday over Lake Elsinore and has thrown 48 2/3 innings with 17 walks and 53 K’s.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: AARON PHILLIPS

San Jose right-hander Aaron Phillips threw six shutout innings against Lancaster to earn Cal League Pitcher of the Week honors. Phillips  allowed just a hit and a walk against five strikeouts at the Giants beat the JetHawks 1-0.

Drafted out of St. Bonaventure in 2017, Phillips is in his first year at San Jose. Over his last four starts he has thrown 22 innings and allowed three earned runs on 11 hits with seven walks and 13 strikeouts.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: LOGAN GILBERT

Modesto’s Logan Gilbert had two stellar outings to earn California League Pitcher of the Week honors. Over 12 scoreless IP, Gilbert allowed just six hits and two walks with 16K’s to go 2-0 for the week. Sunday’s seven-inning outing against Rancho Cucamonga was dominant with 11 K’s against only two hits and no walks.

Gilbert was Seattle’s first round draft pick last June out of Stetson. He started the year with West Virginia of the SAL and has mad three starts for the Nuts. His WHIP with Modesto is 0.92 with opponents batting .183 against the tall right-hander.

 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: MATT FRISBEE

San Jose Giants RHP Matt Frisbee has been named Cal League Pitcher of the Week. In his third outing since being promoted from Augusta, Frisbee threw six shutout innings against Modesto on Thursday night. He gave up just one hit with no walks while striking out five in San Jose’s 1-0 win.

Frisbee was drafted in the 15th round in last year’s draft and started the year at Augusta. In four outings (two starts) there he had a WHIP of 1.06 and opponents batted just .196 against him. He walked just six against 23 K’s.

 

GORE NAMED CAL LEAGUE PITCHER OF THE WEEK

MacKenzie Gore of the Lake Elsinore Storm was named Cal League Pitcher of the Week for two starts in which he struck out 18 batters over 9 1/3 innings. The lefty allowed just one earned run on three hits and three walks over the two outings.

Gore was the third overall draft pick in 2017 and is ranked as the #14 prospect in all of baseball by MiLB.com.
