PUIG GOES 2-FOR-4 IN QUAKES WIN

Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig is back with Rancho Cucamonga, rehabbing an early-season hamstring injury for the second time, and he went 2-for-4 with a double as the Quakes defeated the Jethawks in Lancaster, 8-5. He played seven innings.

Just about a month ago, Puig only got seven ABs with the Quakes before re-aggravating the injury. Last night, the 2014 NL All Star was in the middle of a first-inning rally, doubling and scoring as Rancho got out to a 2-0 lead.

The Jethawks tied it at two in the bottom of the inning but the visiting Quakes outlasted them, with Cody Bellinger and Tyler Ogle launching two-run homers.

LANCASTER’S RAMSAY HAS HIT STREAK STOPPED AT 20

lancasterjethawksnewReigning Cal League Offensive Player of the Week James Ramsay went 0-for-4 tonight in a 9-8 loss at High Desert, ending his hitting streak at 20 games. Ramsay has been on a tear since mid-May, raising his batting average from below .200 to his current .301.

In the Astros’ loaded minor-league system, Ramsay hasn’t cracked the top-30 prospects list for either Baseball America or MLB.com, but the 2013 seventh-round draft pick has found his groove at the plate with Lancaster. During the impressive streak, Ramsay had nine multi-hit games, finishing it off by going 10-for-16 in the last three games. Prior to tonight’s loss, the Jethawks had won seven of their last eight and moved into second place in the South division.
