The Fresno Grizzlies put up 12 runs over the final four innings and evened up their series with the Modesto Nuts as they posted a 12-3 victory at John Thurman Field on Wednesday night. Michael Prosecky threw five scoreless innings and allowed four hits and a walk with seven strikeouts as he earned his 10th win of the season, second in the Cal League.
The North division showdown was scoreless through five innings, with Prosecky finishing with a league-leading 110 strikeouts. Cole Carigg broke the ice with a sac fly in the sixth to give Fresno a 1-0 lead. Bryant Betancourt made it 2-0 with an RBI single later in the inning.
It was one-way traffic for the next three innings as the Grizzlies added on each time at bat, concluding with a seven-run ninth inning. The Nuts struck for three in the bottom of the ninth but it was nowhere near enough.
Fresno (30-14) moved to five games ahead of Modesto (25-19) with four more games head-to-head in this series coming up. Game three is Thursday at 7:05PM.
