The Modesto Nuts surrendered the lead in the top of the eighth inning, then got four runs in the bottom half to secure a 9-6 win over Fresno on Tuesday night at John Thurman Field. With their 13th win in their last 16 games, Modesto moved to within four games of first-place Fresno in the North division.
Brock Rodden went 2-for-5 and tripled in a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Nuts the lead back. Two more runs followed on a wild pitch and a bases-loaded HBP.
Michael Arroyo and Bill Knight each had three hits for Modesto. Lazaro Montes had two hits and drew two walks while driving in two runs.
Fresno’s Cole Carigg had three hits and scored three runs and Skyler Messinger had two hits and three RBIs.
Game two of the six-game series is Wednesday at 7:05PM.
