The Modesto Nuts scored eight times in the fifth inning and pulled away from Visalia in game two of their six-game series at John Thurman Field Wednesday night, winning 15-2. Gabe Moncada belted his 10th home run of the season, a three-run shot, and three different Nuts players had two-hits apiece.
Miguel Perez doubled, tripled and drove in three runs for Modesto. Tatem Levins was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored.
Modesto scored three times in the bottom of the first inning and led 3-1 when the big fifth inning started. Riley Davis (W, 4-0) pitched four innings out of the bullpen and gave up two runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
Cristofer Torin was 2-for-3 for Visalia and has gone 3-for-6 over the first two games of the series.
Modesto has won three straight games and four of five. At 12-14, the Nuts have pulled to within seven games of first place in the North division. Visalia (10-16) is seven games out in the South division.
Game three of the six-game series is Thursday night at 7:05PM.
