Tyler Cleveland went 7 2/3 innings and allowed just one run as the Modesto Nuts beat the Visalia Rawhide 3-1 on Tuesday night at John Thurman Field. It was Cleveland’s longest outing of the season and he leads the Cal League with nine wins.
Modesto broke a scoreless tie in the third inning when they rallied for three runs. Gabe Moncada doubled in a run to start the scoring. Freuddy Batista and Milkar Perez followed with RBI singles to make it 3-0.
Cleveland (W, 9-5) kept Visalia off the board until the eighth inning, allowing seven hits and one walk with three strikeouts over 7 2/3 innings. Danyer Sanabria singled in Visalia’s only run to make it 3-1. Stefan Raeth (S, 4) came on for the third out of the eighth, stranding two runners, and then pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up the save.
Modesto (11-14) won for the fourth time in the last six games and sits eight games behind Fresno in the North division. Visalia (10-15) is six games out in the South.
