Edgar Quero doubled, tripled and homered (15) and Connor Van Scoyoc threw six shutout innings for the Inland Empire 66ers in a 5-0 win over the San Jose Giants on Sunday night at Excite Ballpark. Van Scoyoc (W, 9-4) allowed four hits and a walk while striking out 11.
Quero tripled in a run in the two-run first inning to get the 66ers off and running and San Jose never got on the scoreboard against Von Scoyoc and two relievers. Quero also had two walks, three RBIs and two runs scored.
Inland Empire (28-20) won four of the six games in the series and is two games up on Lake Elsinore in the South division. San Jose (23-20) is six games out in the North. The 66ers return home on Tuesday for a six-game series with Lake Elsinore. San Jose travels to Modesto.
