The Inland Empire 66ers won for the third night in a row and earned a series split with a 13-9 win over the Fresno Grizzlies on Sunday night at San Manuel Stadium. David Calabrese had four hits and Edgar Quero and Adrian Placencia both homered as the 66ers pounded out 17 hits.
The Grizzlies got three unearned first-inning runs but Inland Empire came back with 12 unanswered runs over the first four innings. Quero hit his 14th home run of the season in the bottom of the first and Placencia followed with his ninth.
After tying it up in the third, the 66ers batted around in the fourth inning and put up seven runs. Fresno scored six runs over the final four innings but came up short.
Tate Kolwyck was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs for Inland Empire. BJ Boyd went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs from the leadoff spot. Each of the 66ers starters recorded at least one hit and five of them had multi-hit games.
Starter Gabriel Hernandez went three innings and gave up 3 runs (0 ER) on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Michael Darrell-Hicks (W, 1-0) pitched two innings in relief and didn’t allow any runs, hits or walks while striking out three to pick up the win.
Yanquiel Fernandez was 2-for-5 with his 14th home run of the season for Fresno. Zach Kokoska had three hits and three RBIs.
Inland Empire (24-18) holds a one-game lead in the South division and will travel to San Jose for a six-game series on Tuesday. Fresno (22-20) is three games out of first place in the North and heads to Visalia.
