The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes scored in six of eight turns at bat and posted an 8-3 win over the Inland Empire 66ers on Wednesday night at LoanMart Field. Julio Carrion (5) and Damon Keith (8) both hit solo homers and Luis Yanel Diaz (8) hit a two-run shot to lead Rancho Cucamonga’s nine-hit attack. The Quakes drew 11 walks with five different hitters walking twice.
The win kept Rancho Cucamonga (33-26) two games back of first-place Lake Elsinore in the South division.
Jerming Rosario bounced back from his toughest outing of the season with 4 2/3 innings where he allowed 1 R on 3 H and 2 BB with 4 Ks. Martin Santana (W, 3-1) came on for 1 1/3 scoreless innings with no walks or hits and one strikeout to earn the win. Kelvin Bautista added two scoreless innings with 0 H, 1 BB and 2 Ks.
Diaz, Yunior Garcia and Carrion all had two hits for the Quakes. Keith and Carrion were each on base three times and scored two runs. Kenneth Betancourt had a double, two walks and scored two runs.
Kevin Watson Jr. homered for the 66ers, his second of the year. His two-run shot in the seventh inning pulled Inland Empire to within 5-3 but they got no closer.
The teams have split the first two games of the six-game series with game three on Thursday night at 6:30PM.
