The Modesto Nuts won their third straight game on Tuesday night with a 17-3 romp over the Lake Elsinore Storm at John Thurman Field. Robert Perez Jr. led the offense with three hits and five RBIs including a double and a triple. Randy Bednar was 3-for-5 with a double and four RBIs. Edwin Arroyo was 3-for-5 with a walk and a triple and scored four runs.
Perez Jr. leads the California League in RBIs with 57. Arroyo leads the league in hits with 72 and is fourth in batting average at .323.
Starter Juan Burgos went 1 1/3 innings and gave up Lake Elsinore’s three runs in the second inning. Only one run was earned, and Burgos gave up two hits and two walks with one strikeout. Three relievers combined for 7 2/3 shutout innings with Brayan Perez (W, 1-0) getting the win for his 2 2/3 innings where he allowed three hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
Carlos Luis led Lake Elsinore’s offense with three hits.
Modesto is now 28-30, 11 games out of first place in the North division. Lake Elsinore (34-24) remained two games up on Rancho Cucamonga in the South.
Game two of the six-game series is Wednesday night at 7:05PM.
