SIX-RUN INNING DRIVES MODESTO

The Modesto Nuts put up six runs in the third inning on Tuesday night and went on to an 11-5 win at home over Inland Empire. A 2-0 deficit was erased and four pitchers covered the distance for the Nuts, who won for the seventh time in their last 10 games.

DH Corey Rosier singled in two runs to tie the score at 2-2 to get the third-inning outburst started. Robert Perez and Trent Tinglestad singled in runs before Brett Rodriguez capped off the big inning with a sac fly.

Bryce Miller started for Modesto and went three innings, allowing two runs (1ER) on four hits and no walks with six strikeouts. Leon Hunter (W, 5-1) went 3 1/3 and allowed 2ER on one hit and one walk with seven strikeouts. After a clean inning from Matthew Willrodt, Juan Mercedes pitched the final 1 2/3 innings with no runs allowed on one hit, no walks and five strikeouts.

The Modesto pitchers racked up 18 strikeouts.

Colin Davis was 3-for-4 with two doubles to lead the Nuts. Alberto Rodriguez also had three hits.

Modesto closed to within six games of San Jose for the final playoff spot.
