STORM BATS OVERCOME RAWHIDE

Friday night in Lake Elsinore the Storm came back from a 2-0 deficit with an onslaught that ran from the fourth inning through the seventh to notch a 9-5 victory. C Luis Camupsano and SS Eguy Rosario both had three hits and two RBI while CF Aldemar Burgos contributed an inside-the-park two-run homer as the Storm raced to victory.

The Rawhide posted single runs in the second and third innings and starter Shumpei Yoshikawa was cruising along through three innings but a two-run uprising for the Storm in the fourth inning started an onslaught that ended with nine runs and 14 hits.

Over the next four innings the Storm notched all nine of their runs and at the end of the night they had tallied four doubles, a triple and Burgos’ inside-the-park homer. RHP Gabe Mosser (2-0) came on in the fourth inning and went 4 1/3 IP allowing three runs on eight hits and a walk with one K to earn the win. Yoshikawa (3-6) took the loss with 4 2/3 IP where he allowed five runs on nine hits with no walks against three strikeouts.

The Storm evened its record in the second-half standing at 16-16 while Visalia held on to first place in the North despite dropping to 18-14.

QUAKES’ DEVIN MANN NAMED PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Rancho  Cucamonga INF Devin Mann has been named the California League’s Uncle Ray’s Player of the Month for June. Mann had a 1.107 OPS for the month with 10 homers and 21 RBI and a .361 OBP. Currently, his 86 hits are  fifth in the league and his 52 runs scored are fourth.

Mann was drafted by the Dodgers in the fifth round in 2018 and appeared in two games in the AZL and 63 games at Great Lakes of the Midwest League. In 229 ABs with the Loons Mann batted .241/.348/.335 last year and has been with Rancho Cucamonga all of 2019.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: CAL RALEIGH

Modesto Nuts C Cal Raleigh was named Cal League Offensive Player of the Week as he batted .304/.433/.739 over seven games. The Mariners’ #13 prospect had a two-homer game against San Jose on June 26th and belted another one the following night against Visalia.

The 22-year old Raleigh was drafted out of Florida State in the third round of the 2018 draft and played 38 games at Everett of the short-season NorthWest League. He earned his promotion to Modesto by hitting .288/.367/.534 at Everett last year.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: JOSH GREEN

RHP Josh Green of the Visalia Rawhide was name Cal League Pitcher of the Week with 11 strong innings over two starts. Green went five innings against Stockton on June 26th and  followed it up with six shutout innings against Modesto on June 30th. Over 11 total innings Green allowed 2ER on 7H with 2BB and 14K.

In picking up the win over Modesto, Green’s record improved to 7-1 on the year. A 14th-round draft pick in 2018, Green appeared in 25 games for Hillsboro of the short-season NWL last year.
