A sold-0ut crowd at LoanMart field in Rancho Cucamonga saw Quakes 2B Brandon Trinkwon earn MVP honors in the California – Carolina League All-Star Game Tuesday night. Trinkwon went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored as the Cal League won by a score of 9-2. 10 Cal League pitchers gave up just two runs with Visalia’s John Omahen earning the win with a perfect inning in the third.
The teams traded runs in the first two innings, but the Cal League kicked it into gear with two runs in the 3rd, three in the 4th and three more in the 6th to make it comfortable.
Just about everybody contributed to the Cal League’s 13-hit attack. Trinkwon’s Rancho Cucamonga teammate Cody Bellinger had a double and two RBI. The Modesto Nuts contributed four hits from Raimel Tapia (1-for-2, run scored), Jordan Patterson (1-for-4, run scored) and Ryon McMahon (2-for-4, 2b, 2 runs scored).
Trinkwon, normally a top-of-the-order hitter in the Quakes’ lineup, did his damage out of the #9 hole. Lancaster’s Brett Phillips led off and San Jose’s Hunter Cole batted second before the big bats in the Cal League lineup. Trinkwon was inserted at the end of the batting order and it paid dividends for RC manager Bill Hasleman.
The All-Star break continues today before a full slate of games on Thursday.
