COTTON, LARA EARN WEEKLY HONORS
A solid outing against Bakersfield earned Cotton the Pitcher of the Week award. Over seven one-hit innings against the Blaze, the right-hander out of East Carolina walked three and struck out nine with no runs allowed. Cotton ranks in the top 10 in the California League in strikeouts with 92 and has played the full season in Rancho after seeing action at three levels in 2013. OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – JORDY LARA, 1B, HIGH DESERT
Lara goes back-to-back with Player of the Week awards, and he has finally hit his way up to AA. He left the Cal League on a tear, hitting .500/.542/.1.227 for the week and his 1.022 OPS is the third-best mark in the circuit this season. Lara homered in five-straight games and finished his Cal League stint on a 17-game hitting streak before being promoted to AA Jackson.

WEEKLY HONORS GO TO LAMB, LARA
PITCHER OF THE WEEK – CHRIS LAMB, LHP, STOCKTON
Lamb was recognized for a solid start at High Desert, going 6 IP while allowing 6 H, 0 R, 0 BB and 11 K’s. The lefty has converted to full-time starting duties with the Ports and improved to 3-1 at week’s end. Drafted in the 11th round in 2011, Lamb was a starter at two levels in 2012 before going to the bullpen in 2013 for all 32 appearances at Beloit. Back in the rotation now that he’s in Stockton, Lamb has put together a string of good outings.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – JORDY LARA, 1B, HIGH DESERT
For the second time this season, Lara takes player of the week honors with an impressive 4-homer week. His slash line was .417/.483/.958 and that is in line with what Lara’s been doing to Cal League pitchers recently. Over his last 10 games, the slugger form the Dominican Republic has an OPS of 1.451 and his .347 batting average is tops among active Cal Leaguers. Only Kyle Waldrop and Corey Seager have posted higher batting averages this year and they’re both off to AA.

LIVELY REPEATS AS PITCHER OF THE WEEK
PITCHER OF THE WEEK – BEN LIVELY, RHP, BAKERSFIELD
Bakersfield’s Ben Lively had another stellar week, going 2-0 while striking out 17 batters in 12 innings. His season numbers are spectacular: 5-0, 0.31 ERA, 29 IP, 13 hits allowed and just one walk against 40 strikeouts. The right-hander from Central Florida came into the season as Cincinnati’s #9 prospect and he’s been dominant for Bakersfield in five starts. MiLB.com calls him the most consistent pitcher in all of the minor leagues so far this year.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – JORDY LARA, 1B, HIGH DESERT
Lara went 10-for-24 over the week with two longballs and a line of .417/516/.792. Hitting in the middle of the Mavericks’ order, Lara knocked in 11 runs and walked six times while only striking out twice. He finished up 2013 with a promotion to High Desert and had success in 15 games. Now the Dominican Republic native is showing that it wasn’t a fluke.

FRIDAY NIGHT WRAP
The big news of the week has obviously been Clayton Kershaw’s rehab start for Rancho Cucamonga tonight, but there was plenty of Cal League action involving those climbing the minor league ladder. The two divisions are looking like two-team races, both North and South, as the schedule approaches the 25-game mark. Here are some of the highlights:
