Bakersfield’s Ben Lively is on the hill tonight for a home game against High Desert with a chance to be the first 8-game winner in the Cal League. Lively is currently the only pitcher with 7 wins in the circuit and will be squaring off against Tyler Pike of the Mavericks.
Taken in the fourth round of the 2013 First Year Player Draft, Lively is the Reds’ #12 organizational prospect and has been dominant over nine Cal League starts. With a total of 55 2/3 IP, he leads the league in wins (7), WHIP (0.70), strikeouts (65) and ERA (0.81).
The Pensacola, FL native has only walked seven batters and his one loss was a six-inning outing against Lancaster in which he gave up one run on four hits and struck out seven while walking two.
